National funding received for collaborative scientific data environments

CI Professor Pall Thordarson and CI Professor Ben Boyd are part of the Australian Characterisation Commons at Scale (ACCS) project that was awarded $1.9 Million from the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC)
The ACCS is a national consortium with seven main projects. One of the main projects within ACCS is “National Tools for Scattering and Beyond” will be led by Professor Thordarson and ran out of UNSW. It will essentially take the existing opendatafit platform and extend it to performing analysis of scattering data such as SAXS and SANS from the ANSTO facilities at Lucas Height in Sydney and the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, Melbourne.
The ARDC invited the eResearch sector to submit proposals for new research-orientated platforms and services that connect and provide access to a range of resources to researchers and industry. With a total investment f $12 million, the successful platforms projects cover all of the National Science and Research Priorities and National Research Infrastructure Roadmap focus areas. The breadth of investment ensures Australia’s world-class research system continues to improve productivity, create jobs, lift economic growth and support a healthy environment.
The ARDC defined a Platform as a set of services, often with associated integration and/or orchestration functions, as well as connections to specific data resources, that are intended to enable researchers to carry out some of their research activities. Platforms are often designed to meet the needs of particular communities.
