Logging in using AAF

Logging in to HPC ID, MASSIVE and CVL@MASSIVE using AAF

If you work or study at an Australian University you will be able to log in to HPC ID, MASSIVE and CVL@MASSIVE via the AAF using your organisational credentials.

About the AAF

The Australian Access Federation (AAF) is an organisation that provides a mechanism by which you can use your organisational (i.e. Monash University) username and password to gain access to a variety of services provided by other institutions and organisations. These AAF enabled services are accessed via a web browser-based interface and include facilities such as file transfer, data storage, computing, collaboration tools and portals, scientific instrumentation, administrative systems, scholarly resources and teaching, learning and research resources.

AAF authentication

Your AAF credentials are the same as your institutional username and password. To check that your organisation is a member of the AAF checks the complete AAF member list.

If your institution is not a member of the AAF, contact the MASSIVE helpdesk for assistance.

Using AAF authentication

  1. The first screen you will see when logging in to HPC ID, MASSIVE or CVL@MASSIVE is the AAF Discovery service (see Fig. 1 below).

  2. Select your organisation (hint: start typing in the search field to initiate the autocomplete function). Once you’ve found your organisation select the [Continue to your organisation] button. You will be directed to the login form for the selected organisation. Note, if your organisation doesn’t display in the AAF Discovery Service contact the MASSIVE helpdesk.

3. Enter your authentication credentials for your organisation. The screenshot below demonstrates the Monash University login service. Note: If you cannot log in to your organisation contact your local IT support service.

4. You will be presented with the login form for the selected organisation. Enter your authentication credentials for your organisation.

5. The first time you attempt to access a new service, it will ask you for permission to access the information provided by your organisation’s login process (typically your name and email address). This information will be used by HPC ID, MASSIVE or CVL@MASSIVE to authenticate you on to its system and create your account. The form may also provide you with a range of release consent duration periods, in which case you should select one and select the [Accept] button to proceed.

My organisational login isn’t working, what do I do?

If you cannot log in to your organisation (step 3 above), contact your organisation's IT support service.
